BaseballSoftballUK (BSUK), the development agency for the two sports in Great Britain, is seeking to recruit a full-time Fastpitch Softball Development Officer, initially on a one-year contract beginning in March 2016.

This is one of the most exciting periods in the history of British softball and baseball, with participation having doubled from 10,000 in 2009 to over 21,500 people now. Fastpitch, however, is an underdeveloped format in the UK, and the job represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to grow the sport and to shape its future in Britain. With the likely inclusion of softball in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo and at a time when female sport is high on the agenda, we are looking for someone with great partnership skills, a passion for engaging people and a strong motivational drive – as well as the relevant fastpitch skills and knowledge -- to join our team to help engage, energise and enthuse a whole new generation of women and girls to take up the sport.

The main requirement of the job is to organise and deliver programmes to recruit more young girls aged 9-16 to fastpitch softball through schools and in community settings.

Other aspects of the job, working with other BSUK development staff, will include contributing to a strategic plan for fastpitch development, designing curriculum for fastpitch coach development, delivering fastpitch coach training, playing a major role in our Academy and High Performance Academy programs, setting up programs to recruit and train young pitchers and catchers, monitoring and assessing national team coaches and programs and supporting the search for additional sources of income for fastpitch development.
