Baseball-Softball not part of 4 additional sports proposed to the IOC by Paris 2024
Paris 2024 has unveiled a list of four proposed additional sports during a press conference on Thursday, February the 21st. Surf, Climbing, Skateboard and Breakdance have been chosen by Paris 2024 to be additional sports and will be reviewed by the IOC, a list being submitted to the Executive Board in March, then to the Session in June 2019, the final decision being taken in December 2020. Although IOC hasn’t officially communicated yet, it seems like the Paris 2024 announcement has received the approval of the Olympic body. This means it would end Baseball-Softball’s bid to be an additional sport at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This decision is of course disappointing, the international baseball-softball community having put together a great project for the 2024 Olympics – one for which WBSC and FFBS have been congratulated by Paris 2024 – and could have helped build a baseball-softball Olympic bridge between Tokyo 2020, Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028. We want to thank everyone who has worked on the campaign and those who continue work on a daily basis for the growth of the game in Europe. The future is still ahead of us and WBSC Europe is committed to the development of Baseball-Softball on the continent.
